WOW!!! Grow Garretson was officially formed just about 3 months ago and we have made SOOO much progress in such a short time. I am so proud of the Grow Garretson group! Besides the initial work of figuring out how the group should be structured, what committees we need, etc. here’s a brief update on some of the things that we’ve gotten accomplished in the last few months, as well as a preview of things that we are working on!
- TripAdvisor – Annie’s Coffeehouse, The Garretson Museum, Tucker’s Walk, The Treasure Chest, Palisades State Park, Devils Gulch and Splitrock Park have all been added to TripAdvisor as attractions in Garretson! WIN! Now we need as many people as possible to go out and review those places. Trip Advisor is very particular about the reviews that it posts, so when you review the business make sure that you term it as if you are reviewing a specific time that you were there and not a general opinion or Tripadvisor will not allow it. Click the links at the bottom of the page to give these businesses a 5 star review.
- Second Saturdays – We hosted our first ever Second Saturdays event on Main Street Garretson last Saturday and it was a HIT! Some businesses reported to me that they had better sales that night than they do on Jesse James Days!! Thanks to our AWESOME community for coming out and showing some love to our local businesses. We are on a mission to bring life and enhanced business to downtown Garretson. Second Saturdays will be held on the Second Saturday of every month in May, July, August, September and October. We know that this event will just keep getting bigger and better and we can’t thank the community enough for their outpouring of support for our efforts.
- Buy Garretson Ad Campaign – We are currently working on a really fun ad campaign that I know you’re going to love. It’s part of our “Buy Local” effort. I can’t wait to unveil it!
We are working on a lot of other bigger projects with our Director of Economic Reconstruction, Chad Hanisch, that take a little more time. Even though it is sometimes hard to see the progress along the way, rest assured that we are working diligently and eventually you will see BIG changes. One of the things we are most excited about is a bike path from Palisades to Garretson that you will be hearing a lot more about going forward. We are working in conjunction with the city and looking for grant money as well. Where there is a will, there is a way and I have no doubt that with Grow Garretson and our awesome community, there IS a will AND a way! We are also working with the City, the State and Dakota Resources to complete a housing study and development plan.
I also want to give a HUGE shout out to Nicole Higgins who has done an INCREDIBLE job with the graphic design for Grow Garretson. She also designed the yard banners that the Commercial Club is selling. Check them out – they’re cool! Nicole, you are AMAZING!
Thanks again to everyone for ALL of your support! – Shelly Hofer – Business Development Chair
